September 2007 wind-down camp

MaC- with 1st Shanklin at 2007 wind-down camp

2007 was the year we all celebrated the Centenary of the first experimental Scout Camp for Boys on Brownsea Island. We (as in Scout Leaders, Managers and Helpers) organised a number of events throughout the year and by September we agreed that we needed a relaxing event for us. What better way to relax than CAMPING AT  CORF!  We called the camp REUNWIGHTED! Julie and I camped with my old group, 1st Shanklin, (where I was a Scout Leader for a couple of years) and met up with lots of friends.

Looking back at these photos I remember the great time we had that weekend. But the memories are tinged with sadness when I see the friends here who have "gone home" in the intervening years.

The tide was out so I could walk round a lot of the mud flats outside the campsite. One of the first outings for "Hatty".

Lots of birds and boats on the creek.
1st Shanklin Scout Leader GI Joe (who was an American and a US Ranger) cycled to Corf from Shanklin. Joe is sadly no longer with us.
Steadily the camp filled up.
The best way to chill out - with an ice cream.
We had a "Scouts Own" with  East Wight District Chaplain Alan.
The Mattinson Centre is named after County Chairman David Mattinson, pictured with his late wife Julia.
And, of course, Julie contributed to the obligatory "Cake o'clock".
Tom, Bob and John, all no longer with us.
East Wight District Commissioner Val and her husband, Brad.
Group Scout Leader Carol managed to round up most of us for a final photo call.
